Meet the Guides

The people who put you on birds.

Our guides are more than guides — many work year-round planting fields, building blinds, and scouting.

01 The Team

Our guides go above and beyond to make sure your experience is exceeded every time out. You would be hard pressed to find better in the industry.

Longtime Guide · Since 1976

Darryl Markham “The Dog”

Darryl has guided for the Bernsen family since 1976 and is one of the most loyal members of the Eagle Lakes team, known for building lifelong friendships with his hunters. A true switch hitter, he is equally skilled at ducks and geese and consistently ranks among the operation's top duck producers.

Part-Time Guide · 30+ years

Rod Wolf “Rackin Rodney”

Rod has been a part-time guide with Eagle Lakes for more than 30 years. He is an extremely talented duck guide and makes no secret of the fact that he prefers ducks over geese.

Veteran Guide · USCG Captain

Tony Bernsen “The Lump”

Guiding since he was 12, Tony is regarded as one of the best duck and goose callers in the operation and is known for his endless supply of jokes. After earning his six-pack captain's license, he also became an accomplished salmon guide.

Experienced Guide

Brian Markham “Thirsty”

Brian grew up hunting at Eagle Lakes and spent most weekends as his father's assistant. He consistently ranks among the leaders in goose production but is more than capable of producing a limit of mallards.

Part-Time Guide

Tim Markham “Bones”

Another member of the Markham family who grew up hunting at Eagle Lakes, Tim is known for his talent, customer service, and friendly personality. A versatile guide, he performs well on both duck and goose hunts and is consistently one of the top-producing part-time guides.

Full-Time Guide

Ryan Bernsen “Weasel”

Considered the heir apparent to the operation, Ryan began guiding at 12 and went full-time after college. He ranks among the top producers for both ducks and geese and operates his own guide service in Grande Prairie, Alberta each fall before the Eagle Lakes opener.

Full-Time Guide

Tyler Bernsen “T-Man”

Tyler made his guiding debut at 12 and became full-time after high school. Like his father Tony, he is an accomplished duck and goose caller. He grew up hunting and fishing on the ranch and enjoys time with his dog, Switch, in the off-season.

Full-Time Guide · Since 2015

Jake Bernsen “Jackal”

Jake began guiding part-time in 2015 and completed his first full-time season in 2017–2018. He hunts both ducks and geese with a slight preference for geese, and now assists with habitat projects and prepares the ranch for each upcoming season.

Experienced Guide · Since 2007

Bo Silvers

Bo began guiding for Eagle Lakes in 2007 and regularly brings his dog for difficult retrieves. His attention to detail with decoy placement, blinds, weather, and field setup is second to none. In his free time he also hunts deer, elk, bear, and turkey.

The blinds are set. The birds are working.
